Pathex
PATHEX
PATHEX is known principally as the American brand name for Pathé 9.5, although it appears also to have been used in Europe. Equipment such as resistances and spools with the Pathex label often crop up in the UK. This colour ad is provided by Dino Everett, passed to me by Maurice Trace. Dino thinks the accompanying text may show the last gasp of 9.5 in the US - looks like a fire sale. A sound-on-disc for $39.50! He thinks it dates to 1936 or 1937, which sounds rather late to me. Perhaps it was the Illustra Enterprises of America (Inc).
A couple of years ago (this is 2018), Maurice Trace produced a Guide to Pathex 9.5mm films, which includes a brief history of Pathex. Over 500 silent titles were issued, but there were only about 75 sound films.
A number of variations on the sound theme.
Most of what I have about Pathex is in the form of copies of catalogues, instructions etc, usually thanks to David Richardson.
Below are a couple of variants on the American Baby Instructions, from Dave Richardson. Trying a different approach - PDF instead of page by page.
There was also a camera, of course, and even, regrettably, the Kid.
German Pathex, courtesy David Richardson. Obviously not the same as American, but no doubt part of the explanation for all those Pathex reels etc cropping up.
